Teacher Killed in Car Crash Involving Fleeing Illegal Immigrant

A tragic incident unfolded in Georgia on Monday when a public school teacher lost her life after an illegal immigrant, attempting to evade ICE agents, crashed into her car. The police reported that the incident occurred just prior to 7:45 a.m. in Savannah.

Oscar Vázquez López, a Guatemalan national, has been charged with vehicular homicide. According to announcements from local authorities, López was under a final removal order issued by a federal judge in 2024.

ICE agents had been trying to apprehend López during a traffic stop; he was seen getting into a vehicle. Reports from the Department of Homeland Security indicate that López initially followed commands but subsequently fled. He made a “reckless U-turn,” ran a red light, and collided with the car of Dr. Linda Davis, who was a teacher at Herman W. Hesse Kindergarten through Eighth Grade School.

Dr. Davis sustained fatal injuries in the crash, which occurred just outside the school premises, and was pronounced dead on the scene.

López, 38, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is now in custody at Chatham County Jail facing multiple charges, including reckless driving and first-degree vehicular homicide.

Interestingly, the Chatham police were not informed of the ICE operation or López’s pursuit until after the accident took place.

In a heartfelt statement, Principal Alonna McMullen expressed the impact of Davis’s death on the school community. She noted that the students and staff are likely to respond in varying ways to the loss. McMullen emphasized the importance of support and open expressions of feelings during this difficult time and announced that counseling services would be made available for students and staff.

Assistant Attorney General Tricia McLaughlin commented on the situation, stating that this tragic event highlights the consequences of ongoing political and media narratives that threaten the safety of those involved in law enforcement. She remarked that resisting federal law enforcement is not only a crime but is also perilous, endangering lives, including those of innocent bystanders.
