Georgia Woman Dies After Getting Trapped Under Conveyor Belt While Reaching For Her AirPods

On Friday, a Georgia woman died after getting caught in a conveyor belt while trying to get her AirPods, NBC News reported.

Alyssa Drinkard, 21, was killed last week in an accident at a Club Car manufacturing facility in Georgia. according to Go to NBC News. Club Car, known for manufacturing golf carts and other vehicles, is under investigation following the incident. While Drinkard was at work, he accidentally dropped his AirPods under a conveyor belt.

While trying to retrieve the earphones, she reportedly got caught in the chain mechanism that moves the conveyor. Her co-worker, Faizsha Smith, acted quickly, but the design of the machine made it impossible to free Drinkard right away, according to NBC News. They had to call in maintenance staff to disassemble the machine and then called for emergency assistance, NBC News reported. Emergency crews were reportedly able to free Drinkard by cutting through the metal around the conveyor. Drinkard had a pulse when he was released, and despite life-saving measures taken by paramedics, he was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital. The incident affected those who saw it, especially Smith. According to NBC, she spoke about her unforgettable experience and how her footage affected her. The tragedy reportedly made her think about her future at her company and heightened her concerns about safety at her workplace.

Club Car has not yet released further details, but has expressed its condolences and confirmed that Mr Drinkard was seriously injured at the Evans manufacturing facility, the newspaper said.

“First responders were immediately alerted and we are grateful for their quick response in providing medical care and transport to the hospital,” the company said, according to a report by NBC News. Unfortunately, an employee later died. “We extend our deepest condolences and thoughts to the family, friends and everyone affected by this loss. We are working with authorities and contractors to uncover the facts regarding the cause of the incident. We are currently investigating.”
