Giancarlo Esposito Calls for Revolution Amid ICE Concerns
“Breaking Bad” actor Giancarlo Esposito has sparked discussion about a potential revolution following a recent mass shooting involving a Border Patrol agent in Minneapolis. This tragic event has raised questions about the local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions.
“It’s time for a revolution,” Esposito remarked during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival, suggesting that many may not even realize what they’re beginning. He emphasized that a collective force could not be easily defeated. “If the entire world showed up at the doorsteps of those in power, they would—what?—destroy millions of lives. But somehow, we’ll push through to a new version of reality,” he added.
Alex Pretti was shot and killed during a confrontational enforcement operation in Minneapolis over the weekend, which prompted Esposito’s comments. He expressed his concerns during a conversation with Variety, pointing out that wealthy, older individuals are using their influence to oppress others, creating a perilous environment of societal conflict and encouraging violence.
“This situation reflects a deep-rooted issue in our society. It’s essential that I voice my perspective. We cannot allow ourselves to be disregarded by ICE,” he stated.
In a related note, actress Tatiana Maslany, who has worked with Esposito in the past, openly supported the cause by wearing an “ICE OUT” pin. Another prominent figure at Sundance, Olivia Wilde, echoed these sentiments, wearing a similar pin and commenting on the distressing atmosphere surrounding recent events. She shared her feelings about the “horrible” situation, underscoring the need for unity and action amid the pain many are feeling. “We shouldn’t just sit back and treat this as normal. Lives are at stake,” she remarked.
Wilde expressed her outrage, stressing that it’s unacceptable to view violence against individuals as a trend. She passionately called for the dismantling of what she termed a “criminal organization” in ICE, advocating a movement to end these practices.
Celebrities continue to voice their opposition to ICE and the administration of President Trump, with Bruce Springsteen even creating a song addressing the climate surrounding these events in Minneapolis. He expressed a deep connection to the community, dedicating the piece to those affected, including Alex Pretti and another victim, Renee Good. Springsteen shared the process of how quickly he recorded this anti-ICE anthem, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the profound injustices happening in the area.
