Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is scheduled to interview for other jobs.
Kafka is scheduled to discuss the vacant head coaching position with the Bears and Saints on Thursday. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports..
The 37-year-old has been a part of the Giants' coaching staff since Brian Daboll took over in 2022, adding an assistant head coaching role to his resume last season.
Prior to New York, he served as quarterbacks coach in Kansas City (2018-19) before being promoted to passing game coordinator (2020-21).
Kafka spoke about his future with the Giants before the Week 18 game against the Eagles.
“I love being here and I love working for the Dubs and everyone,” Kafka told reporters.
He's been one of the big names on the coaching merry-go-round over the past two offseasons, most notably last year when he was a finalist for the Seahawks' head coaching job.
He also interviewed for the Titans' top coaching vacancy last offseason.
The previous year, Kafka spoke with the Panthers, Texans, Colts and Cardinals about their respective opening games.
“My focus isn't on that. [getting interviews]my focus was on Philadelphia. ” Kafka said this last week. When I was approached by reporters. “We are preparing for this weekend's game.”
Daboll told reporters he would like to have the offensive coordinator back next season, adding that Kafka is still under contract with the Giants for next season.
“He does a good job for us.” he said this at the beginning of January.
The Bears and Saints have repeatedly asked their respective teams to speak with candidates leading up to Opening Day.
Chicago asked to speak with Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver and Cardinals OC Drew Petzing.
The Bears will also bring in Super Bowl champion Pete Carroll for an interview. According to ESPN's Dan Graziano.
New Orleans also requested a meeting with Glenn, Weaver and Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady.
