Giants offensive tackle Tire Phillips tore his right quadriceps in Sunday's game against the Rams and will require surgery. Head coach Brian Daboll said Monday..
Phillips injured his knee on Sunday during the Giants' first drive in a 26-25 loss, but returned.
He was then sent off the field in the fourth quarter.
“I don't think it's good,” Daboll said Sunday. “He was in a lot of pain. He was in a lot of pain there.”
Phillips replaced Evan Neal as the Giants' right tackle, making Sunday his 10th game and ninth start.
“We work hard knowing that injuries are going to happen, but injuries are part of the sport we play.” Phillips told The Athletic on Sunday.. “All you have to do is trust God. You have to trust Him through everything.”
Matt Peart will replace Phillips, who withdrew from the game, and will start in Week 18, when the Giants close the season at home against the Eagles.

Phillips spent last season on the Giants' practice squad and signed with the Eagles earlier this season. The Giants then re-signed him when an opportunity presented itself due to Neal's injury.
Due to Neal's performance and health issues over the past two years, the Giants could be considering holding competition for the right tackle position next season.
