Gilgo Beach Murders: Suspect To Face Additional Murder Charge In Death Of Fourth Woman

Gilgo Beach murder suspect Rex Heuerman is expected to be charged with the murder of a fourth woman.


An alleged serial killer is expected to reappear in court next week to face charges in the death of another woman whose body was found near Gilgo Beach, multiple sources said.

Prosecutors allege Brainard Burns was found wearing a belt with a distinctive buckle that had the initials “WH” on it, possibly belonging to Heuerman's father. .

The suspect is charged with three counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, 24, Megan Waterman, 22, and Amber Lynn Costello, 27.

Mr. Heuerman has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The former architect has been detained since July 13th.th2023.

When investigators began a thorough review of evidence in the case in 2022, they were directed to Heuerman as a potential suspect, according to court records.

The suspect allegedly used several anonymous prepaid phones to communicate with each victim, and prosecutors say FBI analysts will cross-compare cell site data on the victims' cell phones. He said he was able to do so.

Additionally, court records show that hair found on linen wrapped around one of the victims matched Heuerman's DNA based on a sample taken from the peel of a pizza box that Heuerman discarded. There was found.

Prosecutors plan to reveal when he returns to court in Riverhead on Tuesday that a grand jury returned an indictment charging him with a fourth murder, officials said.
