Gimenez urges DHS to act on Cuban agents while Trump focuses on Latin America

Military Action in Latin America

Recently, President Donald Trump has shifted focus towards Latin America, especially in response to the activities of drug gangs in the Caribbean. Allegations have surfaced concerning military operations aimed at parts of Central America, particularly targeting leaders like Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Representative Carlos Guimenez, who escaped from Cuba during Fidel Castro’s regime in 1960, has urged the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to take a closer look at a list of individuals linked to Diaz-Canel’s government as well as members of the Castro family. Guimenez, serving a congressional district close to Cuba, warned DHS Secretary Christie Noem about the presence of Cuban Communist agents residing in the U.S.

A spokesperson for DHS confirmed they are investigating this matter.

Trump’s Naval Strategy

In a striking move, Trump ordered a military strike against a Venezuelan cartel ship, sending a clear message to President Maduro: “No sanctuary.” This action is part of a broader strategy to combat threats emerging from Latin America. Guimenez hopes that this pressure will extend beyond Venezuela, impacting Cuba’s oppressive regime.

This year, a Cuban-born lawmaker expressed to FOX Business that the U.S. should “freeze the administration’s economic oxygen,” suggesting that the Castro government is nearing its downfall.

Guimenez highlighted the troubling conditions faced by those in the U.S. allegedly under humanitarian programs connected to Cuba’s leadership, which has been accused of numerous human rights violations.

The Trump administration appears focused on addressing threats from Latin America, including airstrikes targeting gang members. Concerns have arisen over potential violations of the War Powers Act, as lawmakers discuss the legality of these actions.

Following these developments, a substantial bounty was placed on Maduro, indicating a significant escalation in U.S. military engagement in the region.

Three warships have recently been deployed in the Caribbean near Venezuela as part of this increasing military presence. Key military leaders have visited Puerto Rico to bolster operations and stress the importance of the island’s strategic role in national security.

Future Actions Against Cartels

With growing threats from various regional cartels, there is a renewed urgency among lawmakers to address these issues. Guimenez’s letter suggested that numerous individuals associated with Cuban security forces may evade scrutiny in the U.S., urging the DHS to act decisively.

He expressed strong emotions regarding the plight of Cuban exiles, stating that many feel disillusioned by those exploiting the U.S. immigration system while their families struggle in Cuba.

Miami lawmakers have demanded a report from Noem regarding any actions taken by DHS about the individuals mentioned in Guimenez’s letter, including potential deportation efforts.
