Gina Carano Reaches Settlement with Disney Following Her Firing from 'The Mandalorian'

Gina Carano Settles Lawsuits with Lucasfilm and Disney

Actress Gina Carano has come to an agreement with Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company regarding her termination from The Mandalorian in 2021, which she claims was due to discrimination.

While the specific details of the settlement remain undisclosed, a spokesperson from Lucasfilm hinted that there may be potential for future collaboration with Carano.

A statement from Disney and Lucasfilm confirmed the resolution of the ongoing legal matters. It emphasized that Carano has earned respect from her peers and has diligently worked on her craft while treating others kindly.

Back in 2024, it was reported that Carano had filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against Disney, alleging she was dismissed for her views that opposed the company’s perceived left-leaning stance. Notably, billionaire Elon Musk provided financial backing for her lawsuit.

Carano’s lawsuit was filed in a federal court in California, and an interesting twist is that Musk’s company, X, is backing her, as they aim to support individuals allegedly discriminated against for social media expressions.

She also accused Disney of misrepresenting her social media activity, leading to the loss of her agent and lawyer, plus diminishing her prospects for future roles.

Carano expressed her belief in maintaining open dialogue during challenging times, stressing the importance of listening to all viewpoints.

In a discussion with a publication, Carano expressed her admiration for Musk’s support, stating, “I think what he’s doing is pretty incredible.” She contrasted his philanthropic focus with others’ excessive pursuits, saying Musk is fighting significant battles.

Carano further detailed an uncomfortable experience with Disney, referring to what they labeled a “reeducation camp.” She was offered a Zoom call with members of GLAAD and others from LGBTQ communities but declined a subsequent meeting, suggesting she would prefer to have dinner with some representatives instead.

Reflecting on her career, she remarked about her dedication and the toll of being labeled a pariah in the industry. “I never compromised on my job,” she noted, indicating her commitment to her work.

Reflecting on the aftermath of her dismissal, Carano commented on how individuals can become isolated due to the industry’s pressures and criticized the tendency to shame others.

She concluded with thoughts on Hollywood’s need to evolve, suggesting it has a chance to grow if egos are set aside. Carano highlighted concerns about Disney’s approach to artistic expression and the implications of her case on the broader workplace environment.

Following her filing, Disney attempted to dismiss the lawsuit, claiming that her speech would not be linked to artistic freedom. However, their effort was unsuccessful.

Carano remarked that Disney’s actions demonstrate their willingness to misrepresent individuals to silence dissenting opinions, underscoring the possible repercussions for anyone working in the company.

She reflected on what Disney’s treatment of her signifies about the company’s values today.
