Gingrich: Katie Britt’s GOP rebuttal to State of the Union an ‘audition’ for Trump VP list

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) says Sen. Katie Britt’s (R-Ala.) rebuttal to President Biden’s State of the Union address makes her a new choice to be former President Trump’s running mate. He said it was an opportunity to put himself out there.

Gingrich said if the freshman senator from Alabama can “rise to the occasion,” he could be added to President Trump’s list of running mates.

“Equally interesting is that the senator [Katie] Britt is a freshman senator from Alabama that some very smart people believe will be Trump’s running mate, but she has a big audition that night because she’s going to answer to Biden. Gingrich told radio host John Catsimatidis. Sunday interview on WABC 770 AM’s “The Cats Roundtable.”

“It will be interesting to see if Britt rises to the occasion. If she does, it would be a huge step forward for her chances of being President Trump’s running mate.”

Britt announced in a post Thursday that he has been chosen to serve as the Republican Party’s response to Biden’s speech scheduled for next Thursday, saying, “I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity to speak directly to my fellow Americans.” said.

The Alabama senator was sworn into the Senate last year, becoming the first woman to represent the state in the Senate. She replaces six-term former Senate Appropriations Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Ala.). Britt also received support from President Trump in the 2022 midterm elections.

If Britt is considered the former president’s running mate, he will be competing against other top Republicans.

Trump confirmed two weeks ago that he was putting his name on the list of running mate candidates. He listed the names of former Republican presidential rivals and current Republican members of Congress.

Former presidents include Sen. Tim Scott (R), entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), Congressman Byron Donald (R), and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R). ), former Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.

Gabbard expressed interest in becoming President Trump’s running mate on Friday, saying, “I would be open to that.”
