Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich slammed President Biden’s stance on Iran and the Middle East as “insane” in an interview Sunday.
In the Middle East, the Israeli-Hamas war and Iran-backed Houthi rebels have recently attacked ships and disrupted international trade in retaliation for Israel’s bombing of Gaza.
Mr. Gingrich particularly criticized Mr. Biden for not taking a stronger stance against Iran.
“By any reasonable standard, this is insanity,” Gingrich said during an appearance on the Cats Roundtable Show with host John Catsimatidis on Sunday. “The United States is following policies that weaken its economy, increase its dependence on the world, and strengthen its enemies.”
In his remarks, Gingrich questioned whether the Biden administration and the people it has chosen for Cabinet positions are even capable of running the country.
“You have to look at this and think, ‘Are these people intentionally anti-American?'” Gingrich said. “Or are they just shockingly incompetent?”
Mr. Gingrich has previously criticized Mr. Biden and his stance on Iran.
On February 1, Mr. Gingrich criticized Mr. Biden, characterizing him as “out of touch with reality” and without the courage to deal with Iran.
“So you have a president who is the epitome of out-of-touch reality, weakness, and just lying,” Gingrich told Sean Hannity during an appearance on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Thursday. told. “He will bully the Israelis because it is dangerous to do anything directly to the Iranians.”
On Friday, the United States carried out retaliatory strikes against Iranian forces and Iranian-backed militias in Syria and Iraq.
Gingrich contrasted the diplomatic stances of Biden and former President Trump on Sunday, saying that during Trump’s time in office, no country wanted escalation with the United States, but now other world leaders are leaning toward Biden. He argued that his point of view was different.
“The question is, who threatens whom?” Gingrich said. “When Donald Trump was president, it was clear that Trump was threatening all these people. They didn’t want to mess with him. They didn’t want to take a big risk. They I certainly didn’t want to pick a fight with him. Biden is the opposite.”
