USMNT Finalizes Roster for World Cup
The United States, one of the hosts for the upcoming World Cup, has seemingly wrapped up its 26-player roster for the much-anticipated tournament this summer.
While the official announcement from U.S. Soccer is expected to come after Memorial Day, sources indicate that players like Brenden Aaronson, Mark McKenzie, Turner, and Sebastian Berhalter are likely to make the cut. Berhalter, notably, is the son of former USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter. Aaronson had already played for the national team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
According to officials, Gio Reyna is also expected to join the roster, marking Mauricio Pochettino’s first World Cup as the USMNT manager.
Reyna, despite his undeniable talent, has been a divisive figure due to his past issues, particularly when he was sent home for behavioral concerns during the last World Cup. The 23-year-old has had 509 minutes of playtime for Borussia Mönchengladbach this season.
Amid all the speculation regarding his future with the national team, Reyna expressed his eagerness to be part of this significant event, stating, “It’s an honor. The national team means a lot to me. I would love to be there and make an impact on the team.” His dream, simply put, is to represent his country on the world stage.
On the other hand, the process of finalizing the team isn’t without its challenges. Reports suggest that Diego Luna, who had emerged as an important player for the USMNT in 2025, will not be part of the final squad for the World Cup. He scored four goals across 18 appearances for the national team and had an impressive 22 goals in three seasons with Real Salt Lake.
Moreover, Xavier Gozo, another player from Real Salt Lake, has also learned that he won’t be joining the national team this summer.
The USMNT is set to kick off its World Cup journey on June 12th against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
