Egypt's coach Hossam Hassan addresses fans regarding Israeli flag at World Cup

Egypt’s Shocking Collapse at the World Cup

After witnessing his team suffer a historic collapse, Egypt’s head coach Hossam Hassan added to the chaos. The game saw Egypt take a promising lead of 2-0, but a flurry of goals from Argentina in the last 20 minutes led to a stunning turnaround, eliminating Egypt from the Round of 16.

As Hassan left the pitch, he seemed to notice two Argentine fans waving Israeli flags, which sparked his ire. He and another coach were visibly upset, pointing at the fans and even appearing to mimic spitting in their direction. At one point, Hassan confronted a cameraman catching the scene, while another coach reportedly directed an expletive towards the fans.

Earlier in the tournament, Hassan had shown his support for Palestine, even waving a Palestinian flag after Egypt’s victory over Australia in the Round of 32. He declared that the win was dedicated to the “good and noble” people of both Egypt and Palestine. “My heart and soul are with them,” he remarked after the match, while voicing a strong opinion about Palestinian sympathy, saying, “If there is anyone in the world who does not sympathize with Palestinians, he is not human.”

In a related incident from a previous match, a fan holding an Israeli flag had it confiscated while a nearby Palestinian flag was allowed to remain. The fan expressed frustration to media sources, highlighting a perceived double standard in flag treatment at the tournament.

According to FIFA Regulation 4.2.23, participants in the World Cup are supposed to display their national flags in a festive manner and avoid political materials. Interestingly, reports suggest that FIFA has allowed for the Palestinian flag to be displayed during the event.
