Give Biden ‘a Little Grace’, I ‘Want to Take His Word’

On “CNN News Central” on Thursday, Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) responded to a question about whether President Joe Biden is fit for the office by saying she “want to take him at his word” and that she’s “listening to a president that I trust” and that people should “give him a little leeway.”

” Stevens said: “[W]We’re listening to the president, whom I trust. The president says he’s in this race to win this election. His wife, our first lady, was in Michigan. My governor spent time with the president and as of yesterday, endorsed the president’s reelection and said the president is the person to do this and this is what the campaign is about. And it’s not just the president alone. This is a team. We have the head of state, the governing body of the Cabinet, myself, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), and the entire Democratic operation in Congress. I know you have to ask me tough questions, and I know people are nervous, but I’m speaking to independent voters. I’m speaking to party activists here, who are ready to roll up their sleeves and see this campaign through to the end. And they trust the president when he says, I wasn’t doing as well tonight as you guys were, but I’m ready to move forward. Give the president a little slack. Look, I’m half his age, and I can honestly say there have been times when I didn’t speak well, or didn’t speak well, I had a frog grab me by the throat in a committee hearing, but I want to believe him, and I have believed him, because he’s someone I’ve known my whole career.”
