Glen Powell Opens Up About Moving Back to Texas
Glen Powell has expressed that he wasn’t interested in the star-studded lifestyle of Hollywood. In a recent chat with Vanity Fair for their 2026 Hollywood issue, the 37-year-old actor, known for his role in “Twisters,” shared his reasons for leaving Los Angeles to return to his roots in Austin, Texas.
Powell mentioned, “I needed a spiritual place where I could hang up my hat and be completely free.” He added that living in L.A. often feels overwhelming, with everyone seemingly caught up in the same struggles.
It seems like he hasn’t strayed too far from the acting scene, though. He noted that Texas is buzzing with filming, and he anticipates even greater competition in the future.
A New Chapter
After relocating to Texas, Powell decided to broaden his horizons by enrolling at the University of Texas at Austin. “I literally just paid my tuition for next semester two days ago,” he shared. He’s fully aware that his current career path might not last forever. “Those who think they’ll stay on top indefinitely haven’t really grasped how Hollywood operates,” he said, emphasizing the importance of hard work and creating meaningful art.
Previously, in a June 2024 interview, Powell had opened up about his desire to head back home once he felt established in Hollywood. “My parents just turned 70, and I want to cherish every moment with my family,” he explained.
He reflected on the emotional toll of being surrounded by constant entertainment and how it can negatively impact mental health. Sometimes, he feels that too much consumption of movies can lead to self-consciousness and a lack of creative freedom.
The Journey
Powell’s Hollywood journey has not been without its challenges. He has remarked before about the difficulties of starting out in the industry, describing Hollywood as a tough environment. His acting career kicked off with “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over” in 2003, and he went on to work with Denzel Washington in “The Great Debaters.” That connection helped him get an agent and make the leap to Los Angeles.
Now, after gaining traction, Powell has co-written and starred in “Hitman,” which earned him a nomination for a Golden Globe. He’s also currently featuring in “The Running Man” alongside other notable actors.
In sharing his experiences, Glen Powell shows us that amidst the chaos of the entertainment world, he values the simplicity and support of home as he navigates his career.
