During a discussion about the recent attempt on President Trump’s life, Charlamagne tha God, the host of ‘The Breakfast Club,’ appeared to express some level of understanding towards the shooter. This prompted a response from Glenn Beck, co-founder of Blaze Media, who called out Charlamagne’s remarks.
Glenn expressed concern that Charlamagne seemed to be justifying political violence. In reply, Charlamagne defended his stance, suggesting that Glenn misrepresented his words and lacked compassion for struggling Americans.
Despite believing that Charlamagne has a unique perspective, Glenn criticized his approach in this case.
Charlamagne began by acknowledging Glenn’s influence, saying, “You know who Glenn Beck is, right? I think he referenced my comments on his radio show regarding the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.” He reiterated his position, emphasizing that political violence is unacceptable but added, “We should examine how individuals get radicalized. The reality is the Trump administration has brought significant hardship to many, and some have reached their breaking point.”
He added, “While I don’t support vigilante justice, we need open discussions about the radicalization process. Glenn knows this.”
“I do like you,” Glenn responded. “However, I think you’re misguided on this issue.”
Glenn noted that Charlamagne’s use of “but” implied a certain level of understanding of violence, despite his condemnation of it. “When you say ‘but,’” he questioned, “it suggests a degree of acceptance. It’s not a subtlety about sympathizing with those feelings. You’re granting understanding to those engaged in violence.”
He concluded, “Once you begin to accept that reasoning, you’ve inadvertently put the assassin on the same level. This isn’t compassion; it’s a distortion of reality, disguised as insight.”
