Glenn Beck: Insider shows USAID was acting against US policy

Changes to Foreign Aid Transparency

Traditionally, foreign aid initiatives have run mostly behind the scenes. However, that seems to be changing, and for good reason, as noted by State Department spokesperson Thomas Piggott.

In a discussion with Blaze Media co-founder Glenn Beck, Piggott pointed out that USAID has had, up until now, a “fundamentally complete lack of accountability.”

He elaborated, “That’s why we wanted to integrate USAID under the State Department to clearly identify those programs.” This unification aims to avoid situations where USAID projects in certain countries contradict the policies set by the elected President of the United States.

Piggott mentioned the prevalence of USAID programs that seemed to “fuel the NGO industrial complex.” Many of these programs, he argued, did not address critical issues but instead supported initiatives contrary to U.S. interests.

For instance, he contends that some organizations backed by USAID advocate for open borders, which conflicts with U.S. efforts to enforce border security. “We’re tackling this issue by ensuring our programs actually promote foreign policy. It’s just common sense,” he stated.

Piggott emphasized that “accountability” is essential for aligning foreign aid with the nation’s policies. “We know where the money is being directed, allowing us to act more swiftly,” he explained, citing the ongoing disaster response efforts in Venezuela as a clear demonstration of effective collaboration with the State Department.

The department is also focusing on censorship issues. Piggott disclosed that combating what he referred to as the “censor-industrial complex” remains a high priority for the State Department. They have already taken measures to eliminate certain organizations that were enforcing censorship on American citizens and are actively monitoring foreign laws that might infringe upon free speech in the U.S.

“Any law that ends up censoring speech in America is unacceptable,” he emphasized, adding a commitment to protecting free expression.
