Global Leaders Denounce Alleged Assassination Attempt on President Trump

World Leaders Show Solidarity Following Attack on Trump

During the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night, world leaders expressed their solidarity in response to an apparent assassination attempt against President Donald Trump.

President Trump was set to make his first appearance at the annual gala at the Hilton Hotel, but the event was abruptly canceled after multiple gunshots were fired. The Secret Service successfully evacuated the president, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vice President J.D. Vance from the stage. Tragically, one Secret Service officer lost his life during the incident. However, President Trump reported that a bulletproof vest had protected him and that he is in stable condition.

The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen from Torrance, California, was reportedly armed with a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives, according to police reports.

The attack, which marked the third assassination attempt on Trump’s life, was swiftly condemned by international figures as news spread to capitals worldwide.

British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer expressed his shock on social media, stating, “I am shocked by the scenes at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Any attack on democratic institutions or press freedom must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. I am truly relieved that [the President], the First Lady, and everyone in attendance are safe.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also shared her relief, saying, “I am relieved to hear that President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and everyone attending the White House Correspondents’ Dinner are safe. There is never any place for violence in politics. We thank the police for their quick actions that ensured the safety of our guests.”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte remarked, “We are shocked by the attack on the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. We are relieved that President Trump, the First Lady, and all of their guests are safe. This was an attack on our free and open society. We stand for democracy and stand in solidarity with the United States.”

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized that the incident is “a stark reminder that violence has no place in a democracy,” noting that while the President and First Lady are safe, such incidents should never be tolerated.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni extended “full solidarity” to Trump and attendees, stating, “Political hatred has no place in our democracy. To protect the values on which our nation was built, the defense of our culture of confrontation must remain an insurmountable bulwark against any tide of intolerance.”

French President Emmanuel Macron labeled the attack “unacceptable” and reiterated that “violence has no place in a democracy,” expressing his full support for Trump.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed relief that Trump and all attendees were unharmed, emphasizing, “Political violence has no place in any democracy. My thoughts are with all those shaken by this disturbing event.”

Meanwhile, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum remarked, “It’s great to see President Trump and his wife doing well after recent events. We salute them. Violence should never be the tool.”

Further afield, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shared his shock about the attack, wishing for the injured officer’s swift recovery and commending the U.S. Secret Service for their decisive action.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan condemned the attack, stating, “In a democracy, the struggle is fought by ideology, and there is no place for violence in any form.” He wished for a speedy recovery for both Trump and the American people.

Javier Milei, an ally from Argentina, expressed “strongest condemnation of President Trump’s recent assassination attempt,” emphasizing his relief that no harm came to Trump or attendees.

Venezuelan acting President Delcy Rodríguez condemned the attempted attack, extending her well wishes for Trump and all attendees, affirming that violence is never an option for those who uphold peace.
