GM stops exports to China as possible tariffs approach, following Ford’s lead.

GM Halts Vehicle Shipments to China

General Motors notified its employees and dealers late last week about the suspension of vehicle shipments from the United States to China for its export business.

This decision is occurring amid ongoing discussions between the US and China regarding tariffs and other trade concerns.

A spokesperson from GM explained that the company had been importing vehicles into China through its Durant Guild Premium Import Business.

“Due to significant changes in the economic landscape, we have opted to restructure the Durant Guild and improve GM China’s operations,” the spokesperson stated.

Previously, goods entering China from the US faced tariffs exceeding 100%. However, both nations had agreed to reduce these taxes for a limited period of 90 days.

Interestingly, in April, Ford, GM’s competitor, also ceased its exports to China.
