Goblintown Ventures into the Trenches with Solana Meme Coin Launch

Simply put

  • Ethereum NFT collection Goblintown has introduced its official meme coin on Solana.
  • GOB tokens utilize various token mechanics for enhanced longevity.
  • Owners of Goblintown and other Truth Arts NFTs will receive weekly allocations for a period of two years.

Goblintown, the Ethereum NFT collection, is launching its own meme coin, creatively named Gob -Gob, aiming to innovate the meme coin experience.

The project is initiated by Goblin LLC, a subsidiary of Truth Arts, and it seeks to address the common issue of sustainability in new meme coins through a multi-layered strategy. Alex Taub, a co-founder of Goblintown, has reportedly analyzed several other initiatives to inform this launch.

“We’ve been brainstorming for the last six months. If we had to throw away all previous designs and rethink token mechanics from scratch, what would that look like?” Taub shared. “There’s no need for just another meme coin, but everyone wants something functional… that’s the goal here.”

Taub expressed that Goblintown is aiming for a design that enhances community appeal and diverges from existing NFT projects.

Initially, GOB tokens will be awarded to specific NFTs within the Truth Arts ecosystem, meaning that the allocation is completely tied to current NFT holders rather than merely the wallet address.

Instead of providing NFT holders with fully vested tokens all at once, the GOB token will be distributed steadily over two years, with weekly availability. Company and team members, however, will have a slightly extended timeline of thirty months, including a six-month cliff.

In contrast to other token launches aiming for high market caps or large token supplies, Goblintown is focused on launching with smaller market caps and limited token availability to deter immediate sell-offs by holders.

Recent activities in the memecoin world have often generated “false incentives” between communities and projects, Taub noted. He elaborated that some designs seem deliberately structured to encourage day-one exits. “With the way it is now, if I have tokens, I feel like a fool,” he stated, pointing to the pitfalls of instant, full allocations on launch day. “We are looking to take a different approach.”

Further, Taub indicated that Goblintown is actively addressing the issue of “snipers,” a challenge in the Solana meme coin ecosystem. The GOB coin was stealthily launched prior to its announcement, with only a small number of tokens released on the initial day. Although this isn’t a foolproof plan, the project team believes it’s a good step forward.

To combat liquidity issues, referred to as “silent killers,” a 2.5% tax on tokens has been introduced to replenish liquidity pools, support operations, and facilitate buybacks and burns. As a result, a portion of every transaction will help sustain the future of the token.

“We’ve come to realize that a thoughtful, balanced tax system can effectively reinvest in the tokens,” Taub remarked, mentioning inspirations drawn from successful token tax models.

When dissected, each component of the GOB token’s design might have been employed in separate instances elsewhere. However, the team believes that their unique combination will lead to the token’s endurance.

“Others have experimented with similar token taxes, and snipers have been tackled here and there,” he explained. “But no one has truly combined these strategies, especially in the context of meme coins connected to NFT projects.”

Taub emphasized that the market appears to be craving innovative token designs. “It’s tough to say if it will definitely succeed, but understanding current trends and what people are looking for might give us a competitive edge.”

Goblintown emerged in 2022 as interest in NFTs surged, challenging the traditional approaches with humor and unexpected marketing strategies instead of standard roadmaps. The collection has since expanded into gaming.

Some of the earlier strategies are being revisited. For instance, there’s now a TikTok filter encouraging users to share their thoughts about tokens, inviting both praise and criticism to promote engagement.

“I think this could work,” Taub concluded. “If people ignore it, it might just fade away. It’s a gamble, but at least we’re giving it a shot.”
