Two Gold Star parents reminded President Biden at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night of the 13 soldiers who died in Afghanistan during the U.S. military’s disastrous withdrawal.
“Our son, Corporal Hunter Lopez, whose name Joe Biden refuses to say, was killed on Aug. 26, 2021,” Alicia Lopez said. “He died during Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.”
“At a debate last month, he claimed that no military personnel had died under his administration. Not one. That hurt us all deeply,” Herman Lopez later added.
“So Alicia and I are here to say the names of all 13 service members who lost their lives at Abbey Gate,” he said, reading each name out loud and encouraging the crowd to chant each one.
Shortly after Herman Lopez read out the names of the 13 soldiers killed at Abbey Gate during the Afghanistan withdrawal, a chant of “Joe has to go” rose from the crowd.
Another Gold Star mother, Christy Shamblin, whose daughter-in-law, Marine Sergeant Nicole Gee, was one of the 13 U.S. service members killed at Abbey Gate, slammed President Biden for refusing to acknowledge her tragic death.
“Joe Biden refused to acknowledge their sacrifice, but Donald Trump spent six hours with us in Bedminster,” Shamblin said.
“Donald Trump shared his burden with me for a few hours,” she added, saying she expected him to be an “arrogant politician” but that he actually showed “empathy.”
