A data breach at Golden Corral restaurants exposed the personal information of more than 180,000 employees and their beneficiaries, the company said this week.
peepee computer report Popular buffet restaurant chain Golden Corral recently disclosed a data breach that affected more than 180,000 people. According to a company press release issued on February 29, 2024, Golden Corral “experienced a data security incident that caused a temporary disruption” between August 11 and August 15, 2023. This breach resulted in the theft of confidential information belonging to current and former Golden. Coral employees and their beneficiaries.
A filing with the Maine Attorney General’s Office reveals that 183,272 people’s records were compromised in a cyberattack. The stolen information included names, social security numbers, financial account details, driver’s license numbers, medical data, usernames, passwords, and health insurance information.
Golden Corral said federal law enforcement has been notified about the incident. The company also said it is “working to implement additional safeguards” against future attacks.
Breach notification letters were sent to affected individuals starting February 16th. Golden Corral explained that it took time to determine the scope of the stolen information before identifying and contacting those affected.
Golden Corral has so far reported no evidence of information misuse, but advised recipients of notification letters to be on the lookout for suspicious activity in their financial accounts and statements. Any unusual transactions should be reported to the appropriate authorities.
For individuals affected by this incident, experts recommend enrolling in a credit monitoring service in addition to monitoring account activity. Setting up fraud alerts and credit freezes can also help prevent identity theft.
