Golden State Coach Steve Kerr Draws on Brown University Attack to Reinforce Gun Control Advocacy

Steve Kerr Comments on Gun Control After Brown University Shooting

Before the NBA game last night, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed the recent shooting at Brown University, expressing his sorrow and advocating for gun control as a potential means to prevent such incidents.

“It’s just a reminder that mass shootings are still happening, and there’s something we can do about it,” Kerr stated. He went on to highlight the shared grief experienced by those affected by this tragedy, comparing it to the pain felt by families from the Parkland shooting and other mass shootings. “Nobody asked me about it today—I didn’t expect anyone to ask. But it’s human nature to think, ‘This is so bad, let’s just not think about it.’ We have to think about it,” he noted.

Kerr has been a consistent voice for gun control. Following the Uvalde Elementary School shooting on May 24, 2022, where a legally purchased weapon was used to kill innocent people, he expressed frustration. “When are you going to do something? I’m tired of offering condolences to the devastated families. Enough is enough!” he declared.

Moreover, he recently pointed out that California’s gun control measures have shown effectiveness and advocated for universal background checks.

Interestingly, despite California’s comprehensive gun control laws, the state has seen a rise in “active shooters” from 2020 to 2024. This is notable considering it has stricter measures than many others. Similarly, Australia, which enforces tight gun regulations, recently experienced a tragic shooting at Bondi Beach, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 innocent people.
