Golden State Valkyries urge fans to 'call in sick' as iconic rapper supplies excuse note

The Golden State Valkyries are on the brink of claiming their first WNBA Championship, and rapper Flavor Flav is encouraging residents of the Bay Area to rally together.

With Game 6 scheduled for 12:30 p.m. PT on Thursday, Flavor Flav shared a humorous form for a “paid holiday” to allow people to skip work and watch the game.

“Thursday is a paid holiday. Because Flavor Flav said,” he added in his post.

The form starts with, “Please excuse,” followed by a space for fans to put their name, “from work for the entire day on Thursday. You know what time it is!”

It continues, “There is a very important WNBA Women’s Finals game between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries, tipping off at 12:30 PM EST.”

Flav also posed a question regarding support for women’s sports, saying, “EVERYBODY WATCHES WOMEN’S SPORTS! You support women’s sports, RIGHT?!”

The note wraps up with Flavor Flav signing off, stating, “The World’s Greatest Hype Man. Official Supporter of Women’s Sports.”

This playful “sick note” comes after Valkyries player Veronica Burton urged fans to “call in sick” following their Game 5 win.

“Call in sick. I recommend it,” she said at the press conference after the game.

Flav isn’t alone in his support; other celebrities have been spotted at the WNBA Finals. Zendaya, recognized for her role in the “Spider-Man” series and a Bay Area native, attended Monday’s game, cheering on the Valkyries.

Her presence seemed to work like a charm, as the Valkyries secured a 64-55 win that put them ahead 3-2 in the series, creating a lively atmosphere in the arena.

Despite just their second season in the WNBA, the Valkyries owe part of their success to coach Natalie Nakase.

If the Valkyries take home the title on Thursday, they’ll have to celebrate on the practice court of the Dream, as the Atlanta Hawks have a game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at 5 p.m. EST.
