Goldie Hawn Discusses Lasting Relationship with Kurt Russell

Goldie Hawn recently shared insights about her long-lasting relationship with Kurt Russell, which has thrived for over 42 years. In her conversation on “The Dan Buettner Podcast,” the 80-year-old actress reflected on the factors contributing to their enduring bond.

When asked about her devotion to Kurt, who’s now 74, Hawn expressed her deep admiration. “I really respect him; I think he’s a wonderful guy,” she said. There’s a level of physical attraction, too—she candidly mentioned, “I was also very attracted to him sexually,” adding, “And that’s vital. A long-term sexual relationship is quite healthy; he’s my sexual object.”

Previously, Hawn has emphasized how essential physical intimacy is for maintaining a strong relationship. “You need to have good sex,” she noted, suggesting that it helps forge a greater sense of connection. It’s not merely the act itself, but the warmth and closeness it fosters that really counts.

Hawn and Russell first crossed paths in 1966, working together on the comedy musical western *The One and Only Real Original Family Band*. Their romantic relationship blossomed while filming the 1983 movie *Swing Shift*, where their chemistry was undeniable, and again in the beloved 1987 comedy *Overboard*.

The couple welcomed a son, Wyatt, in 1986. Moreover, Russell has played a significant role in raising Hawn’s children, Kate and Oliver, from her previous marriage to Bill Hudson. He also has a son, Boston, from his earlier relationship with actress Season Hubley.

Despite their many years together, Hawn and Russell have opted not to marry. Russell, in a 2020 interview, clarified that they felt a marriage certificate wouldn’t change what they had. “For people like us, a marriage certificate didn’t create anything we wouldn’t have otherwise,” he remarked.

In a more recent discussion, Hawn pondered why their relationship status seems to spark such curiosity. “We were always asked, ‘When are you getting married? Why not?'” Russell shared, reflecting on the repeated inquiries. They even checked with their kids about whether marriage mattered to them—apparently, they were indifferent.

Hawn reiterated this sentiment in her podcast appearance, stating that marriage wouldn’t alter anything after 42 eventful years together.

Interestingly, Hawn categorized their relationship based on “self-freedom,” asserting that having space is crucial. She used an analogy about birds to illustrate her point: “If you leave the cage door open, I may never fly out. But if you close that door, I’ll probably shed all my feathers for my freedom and independence.” This metaphor captures the essence of their bond, rooted in mutual respect and personal freedom.
