Welcome to Playing Through’s morning ritual, Golf Talk Today.
Each morning on “Golf Talk Today,” our staff discusses various elements of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf and more.
First of all, Happy Independence Day!
As we all celebrate our patriotic freedoms today, today’s topic is golf fashion for the 4th of July. With the John Deere Classic starting today, I wanted to provide you with a 4th of July fashion guide with the dos and don’ts.
Patriotic attire can quickly go from trendy to ostentatious, so let’s find out what works and what doesn’t for a Fourth of July round of golf.
Patriotic Golf Fashion Tips
Stick to the basics
Plain pants and polo shirts are great choices, and red, white, and blue are the three best primary colors to make up an outfit.
Patterns are still fine, we’re not saying to avoid them, just to be smart about them.
Many of the pieces in the J. Lindberg Team USA line are The perfect option For the 4th of July.
Before everyone freaks out about the bright print, I want to say that a red polo shirt is a classic approach, and navy pants would also look great.
Let the pattern be a moment
If you want to wear the American flag or any pattern, wear it at that moment, wear more neutral pants and shoes to go with it, and try to keep the whole look cohesive by matching your hat to one of the colors of the pants or pattern.
It’s not that predictable
Sure, today is American Freedom Day, but that doesn’t mean you have to plaster the American flag all over your clothes. Red, white, and blue are iconic colors that represent patriotism, and while there are some great patterns that are perfect for the holiday, remember that on a day like the Fourth of July, less is more.
Patriotic Golf Fashion Don’ts
There’s just one thing to avoid in Fourth of July golf fashion: dressing up.
Do not wear the American flag pattern all over your body
When it comes to patriotic prints, less is more. Wearing an American flag top and bottoms is overkill. Opt for a flag shirt and solid color bottoms, or vice versa.
Most patriotic pants are too cheesy, so avoid them at all costs.
John Daly is probably the only person with that kind of confidence who can pull off a pair of those pants.
This doesn’t mean you can only buy one American flag item and not an entire outfit.
