Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Toobin said Friday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that today was a tough day for former President Donald Trump as Judge Scott McAfee reprimanded Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fannie Willis. He said it was a good day.
“Jeff, the judge’s opinion was a scathing rebuke of Willis and her sentence,” Cooper said. “There remain legitimate questions about whether Willis and Wade gave false testimony about the timing of their relationship. It says that there is. In other words.”
Toobin said: “Today was a very good day for Donald Trump. This incident is not going anywhere.”
He went on to say, “Even if this case somehow ends up going to trial in August or the fall, which is extremely unlikely. I’ll think about this. Another extortion case in Georgia. Yes, it took a year to select the jury instead of selecting the trial jury. This case will never be tried before the election.”
Toobin added, “This case will not be tried before the election. It’s embarrassing. All of this. Fani Willis persisted, but this case is not going to be resolved anytime soon.”
Gwen Keyes, former district attorney for DeKalb County, Georgia, said: I think there is enough evidence to move forward. I think timing is particularly important in this case. ”
