“As always, we will pause advertising related to the U.S. election after the last voting deadline on November 5th,” Google spokesperson Michael Aciman said in a statement. “We are introducing this policy out of an abundance of caution and to limit the potential for disruption, given the possibility that vote counting may continue after Election Day.”
This blocks ads about US elections, their procedures, and results. Google said this is a temporary measure and will notify advertisers once the policy is lifted.
Other companies, including Meta, also plan to restrict social and political advertising in the final week of voting.
Nevertheless, Google plans to continue displaying public information campaign ads created by state or federal agencies during the delay period in an effort to “fight misinformation.”

Google monitors political ads through transparency reports, where users can search for details such as who bought a particular ad, how much money was spent, how many impressions the ad received, and where it was shown.
Google implemented a ban on Election Day advertising after voting closed during the last election cycle. Restrictions were lifted in December.
In 2023, Google began asking applicants to disclose whether their teams employed artificial intelligence or digitally altered synthetic content to depict people or events that appear authentic or realistic. .
