Texas Congressman Addresses ICE Facility Concerns
A Republican representative from Texas headed off potential critiques from Democrats regarding an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in his district, after Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) voiced plans to visit it.
Crockett is specifically targeting the Dilley Detention Center located near San Antonio. She noted in a report that a 5-year-old boy was allegedly used as a “decoy” by ICE before being placed at the facility.
“Democrats are doing everything in their power to fabricate the truth to law enforcement.”
The Department of Homeland Security firmly rejected these assertions, claiming the boy was taken into custody after his father ran away from immigration enforcement. While the family’s attorney mentioned a pending asylum claim, Vice President J.D. Vance challenged that narrative, stating the boy is an illegal alien.
This situation has been leveraged by the Democratic Party to spotlight criticisms against the current administration.
“Reports have emerged that a 5-year-old, Liam Ramos, was taken by ICE while returning home from preschool in Minneapolis and may now be in San Antonio,” Crockett shared on social media on Friday.
She planned to visit the Dilley Detention Center the following week to gather information about Liam’s status and wellbeing. “I believe we should already have answers. The Trump administration is unlawfully obstructing Congress from carrying out its oversight responsibilities,” she added.
“Under federal law and the Constitution, we have the right to access detention facilities at any time to ensure the safety of individuals in government custody,” Crockett stated. “This situation is infuriating. My heart aches for Liam’s family. We will uncover the truth.”
In response, Republican Congressman Tony Gonzalez (Texas) shared a video aimed at countering Crockett’s claims about possible abuse at the facility.
“There will be a lot of political showmanship at the Dilley ICE Center soon. This is merely a spectacle,” he posted on social media.
Gonzalez, who claimed to have visited the facility, described it as state-of-the-art, adding, “While our ICE and CBP officers fulfill their roles, Democrats are distorting the truth about law enforcement.”
The narrative caught the attention of former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, who chimed in with her thoughts on the matter.
“Enforcing the law is one thing; using children as pawns to instill fear is another. My heart goes out to Liam Ramos and his family,” she expressed on social media.
Interestingly, Clinton and her spouse may face contempt charges from Congress over their refusal to respond to a subpoena connected to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
