Walz Faces Criticism Amid Claims of Fraud Enforcement
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz recently delivered his final State of the State address, but his comments on the state’s significant fraud issue have sparked backlash, particularly from Republican lawmakers who spoke with Fox News Digital.
State Rep. Kristin Robbins (R-Minnesota), chair of the House Anti-Fraud and State Government Oversight Committee, criticized Walz’s remarks, calling them “ridiculous.” She noted that he seemed to shift blame rather than take responsibility, saying, “He was like, ‘Oh, it’s not enough for me,’ but then quickly changed his tune.”
In his speech, Walz emphasized his administration’s efforts to tackle fraud while asserting that red states experience more fraud than their blue counterparts. He urged Congress to adopt his proposals for combatting these issues.
“We created more checks and balances,” Walz stated, adding that additional investigators, auditors, and law enforcement have been engaged to scrutinize high-risk programs. He promised that those who commit fraud would face arrest and prison time.
During his speech, Walz referenced recent federal raids in Minneapolis, which drew criticism as he appeared to claim credit for actions organized by federal authorities.
“Minnesota consistently ranks as one of the best states to live in because we invest in programs that support children, parents, seniors, and individuals with disabilities,” he continued. “However, we’ve seen that as our support systems become more generous, there must be increased oversight to prevent exploitation.”
Walz urged Congress to consider his fraud-combatting plan, but Robbins countered that it would only complicate matters with more bureaucracy, asserting that the Republican response is “more serious” in dealing with the problem.
State Sen. Mark Colan (R-Minn.) remarked on Walz’s speech, suggesting it was an attempt to obscure his legacy by spotlighting ineffective policies and government overreach.
“He can keep gaslighting people, but no one is buying it anymore,” Robbins expressed.
Sen. Michael Holmstrom (R-Minn.) commented that the governor’s speech resembled a “farewell victory lap,” pointing out that it glossed over a legacy marked by a rise in fraud, higher taxes on families, and a 40% increase in state spending.
Conservative reactions to Walz’s address have circulated on social media, including posts from the Republican National Committee on X, highlighting concerns over his portrayal of Minnesota’s fraud situation.
