He later emphasized that: “The faster we can get everyone together and move forward, the sooner we can start turning the corner, because we have less than four years left in this country. [of] It's Joe Biden. ”
Boyle asked Burgum to detail her experience on the Trump campaign and why she decided to support the former president during Monday's caucus.
In his response, Burgum outlined the stark contrast between Biden and Trump on the economy, energy and national security.
“[Biden’s] We're going in the wrong direction on the economy, we're on the wrong track on energy policy, we're on the wrong track on national security, including border security. Those are the three things we stood for when I was running for president,” Burgum said. “What will happen to the decision to support President Trump?” Well, he's moving in the right direction on the economy, he's moving in the right direction on energy policy, and he's moving in the right direction on national security, including border security. ”
Burgum said it was an “easy decision” to support Trump, noting that Trump supported him from the beginning of the 2016 Republican presidential primary.
“President Trump and I were elected on the same day for the first time,” Burgum said of the 2016 election. “I came from the private sector. He came from the private sector. But I met him early in that campaign, early in the primary before it was clear that he was going to be the candidate. I supported him and served as his spokesperson in the Iowa caucuses in 2020, so it was an easy decision to support the president.”
President Trump praised Burgum in his victory speech on Monday, saying that if elected, he would like to have Burgum as a “very important part of my administration.”
Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), one of Trump's 2024 campaign rivals, also joined the program earlier in the day, calling for unity and declaring his campaign over.
“The race is already over,” Scott told Boyle. “Politically speaking and figuratively speaking, they're dead people walking around. It's time for this Republican Party to focus on just one person, and that's electing Donald Trump.” and eliminate Joe Biden.”
