Concerns Raised Over School’s Sexuality Content

Some Republican lawmakers are expressing concern after a high school, attended by the son of Representative Ashley Hinson, featured a segment on a student-run TV program related to “bisexual plus awareness week.”

Hinson, a Republican from Iowa, took to X to criticize the segment, stating she found it “very bad and inappropriate.” She expressed frustration as both a mother and a lawmaker, questioning why schools would introduce sexual content to minors. “Is the entire student body being monitored on these broadcasts? Why aren’t our kids given the option to opt out?” she asked.

Texas Legislators Respond to Transgender Curriculum Controversy

The segment, which aired on September 25, included students discussing the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, named Spectrum. They mentioned that the week was drawing to a close and explained the term “plus” as encompassing various non-binary identities. One student noted, “The non-identity identity emphasizes that appeal is complex and not limited to traditional binaries,” and hinted that more discussions were planned for the following day.

The Linn-Mar Community School District stated they are aware of the segment and are currently reviewing the situation to determine if any policies were breached during its presentation. They emphasized their commitment to fostering respectful dialogue while ensuring a safe environment that aligns with their guidelines.

Parental Concerns Over Educational Topics

In parallel to the district’s internal review, Hinson has reached out to Education Secretary Linda McMahon, urging federal involvement. In her letter, Hinson identified what she described as a violation of parental trust, claiming that similar content had been aired previously without notifying parents.

She said, “These segments were shown to students without any parental consent,” voicing concern over the school’s role in discussing—and promoting—sexual identities. Hinson asserted that this practice excludes parents from critical discussions concerning their children’s education.

Department of Education’s Stance on Sexuality Education

So far, the Department of Education has not responded specifically to this incident. However, it has maintained a firm stance on matters involving sexuality and identity during the Trump administration.

In a directive from January, Trump called for an end to what he termed “radical indoctrination” in schools. Despite these initiatives, the Department remains operational as of September 2025.

Fox News Digital has sought comments from the Department regarding Hinson’s concerns.
