Three House Republican insurgents pushing to unseat Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) have remained silent on former President Trump’s support for the embattled Congressional leader.

Nearly six months after winning the speaker’s gavel after three weeks of turmoil over the removal of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Mr. Johnson has already defeated Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Calif.). , Georgia) is in danger of being ousted. He introduced a resolution calling for a vote of the entire House on his leadership, known as a motion to vacate his chair.

Two more members of Congress, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), have criticized Johnson’s $95 billion in foreign affairs, including funds for Ukraine, Israel and the Indo-Pacific. signed her resolution protesting the aid plan. But the U.S. border is empty, much to the chagrin of some conservatives.

Mr. Johnson received significant support earlier this week when Mr. Trump defended him and argued that Mr. Johnson was doing the best he could with a razor-thin House Republican majority.

President Trump told radio host John Fredericks: “It’s not like he can go and do whatever he wants. I think he’s a very good person. “He supported me very strongly on NATO when I said we have to pay.” after appearing in court Monday. “I think he’s a very good guy, but it’s a tough situation. I think he’s doing a really good job. And we still have to have a big election.”

Mr. Gosar’s office told Fox News Digital that he had “no comment” on Mr. Trump’s defense of Mr. Johnson. Mr. Gosar is one of Mr. Trump’s most ardent supporters in Congress.

Spokespeople for Mr. Green and Mr. Massey similarly had nothing to share. Fox News Digital attempted to contact both offices multiple times for comment on President Trump’s remarks, but did not receive a response.

Like Gosar, Greene was a powerful ally of Trump in Congress and a popular surrogate for Trump on the campaign trail. She is also one of Mr Johnson’s fiercest critics of his bipartisan approach on issues such as government spending and foreign aid.

Massey supported his primary Republican rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, until DeSantis withdrew from the race earlier this year, and his relationship with the former president was markedly frosty. .

The Kentucky Republican recently accused Trump of “bullying” his colleague, Rep. Laurel Lee (R-Fla.), when he called on her primary challenger to take her down. .

Tensions rise on the ground as conservatives clash with Johnson over $95 billion foreign aid plan

But since defending Trump, both Greene and Massey have said they are unrepentant about their threats against Johnson.

“It’s puzzling to hear the establishment complain that the next presidential election will be too drama-filled, too difficult, and too risky, while Americans listen to the ridiculous drama foisted on them by pathetic politicians in Washington. We’re suffering a lot,” Green said. “Do you know what Americans find difficult? Paying the bills. Do you know what Americans find dangerous? Sending a message about daily deadly border incursions Do nothing but pass the bill,” he wrote to X on Tuesday.

“The weakest argument in defense of Speaker Johnson is that it’s a very small majority. You can’t have everything you want,” Massey wrote in X on the same day. We do not expect to have everything, but we also do not tolerate complete and total surrender. ”

All eyes are on Green. So far, there is nothing forcing House leaders to bring her motion to a vote. If he declares it a “privileged resolution,” lawmakers will have no choice but to take it up within two days of legislation.

A majority of House Republicans have already signaled they don’t want another period of chaos like the one that followed McCarthy’s ouster.

Fox News Digital has reached out to Johnson’s office and the Trump campaign for comment.
