GOP Rep. Ciscomani defeats Democrat Kirsten Engel in AZ-06 House race

Rep. Juan Siscomani (R-Ariz.) plans to fend off a challenge from Democrat Kirsten Engel and retain his seat in Arizona, according to an Associated Press campaign call Wednesday night.

lace for 6th Arizona Congressional District The seat was close, with Siscomani receiving 49.6% of the vote and Engel 47.9%. He leads Engel by just 7,020 votes, according to unofficial election results posted on the state's website.

Democrats had hoped to flip the seat in 2022 in a close race between the same candidates.

Siscomani's victory concludes the Arizona state election and secures a Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives, reaching the 218 threshold.

Mr. Siscomani brandished his bipartisan credentials and ran against a conservative challenger in July. President-elect Donald Trump.

“Congressman Juan Siscomani is doing a great job representing the great people of Arizona's 6th Congressional District,” President Trump said on Truth Social in May. “Juan is working hard to secure our borders, protect our great military and veterans, promote election integrity, and grow America’s jobs and economy.”

Siscomani has made border security a priority, noting that the state is on the front lines of a historic crisis on the southern border.

“I have been consistent in my willingness to work with anyone on either side of the aisle to address the border crisis,” Siscomani said on Fox News Digital in September. “But Vice President Harris' border visit seems like little more than a photo opportunity to score political points.”

Mr. Engel criticized Ms. Siscomani on the issue of abortion, revealing in a recent debate that she had suffered a miscarriage.

“I'm a woman. I have complications and I've had a miscarriage,” she reportedly said in October. Central Arizona. “This is not something to leave to politicians. She also disputed his claim to be a moderate.

“You pretend to be a moderate, but you are giving in to the extremists within the party. It is the extremists who are causing the dysfunction. They are scaring the elderly, because they are the ones in charge. Because when you're in control, they do these things,” she said.

Arizona was seen as a key battleground state in the presidential election, with close races in both the House and Senate.
