GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher Will Resign Early From Congress, Narrowing House Majority

Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., announced Friday that he will resign early from Congress due to the narrow Republican majority in the House.

“After discussions with my family, I have made the decision to resign from my position as Wisconsin’s 8th Congressman, effective April 19, 2024,” Gallagher said in a statement.

Mr Gallagher’s withdrawal means he will now have a 217-213 majority in the House of Commons.

“I am working closely with the House Republican leadership on this schedule and look forward to Chairman Johnson appointing a new chair to carry out the important mission of the Select Committee on the Communist Party of China. “The office will continue to operate and provide constituent services to the 8th District for the remainder of his term,” he continued.

“Serving Northeastern Wisconsin for four terms in the House of Representatives was the honor of a lifetime and reinforced my belief that America is the greatest nation in the history of the world. I will forever be proud of my work on the Council and the Intelligence Committee, as chairman of the Cyberspace Solarium Committee, and as chairman of the Select Committee on the Communist Party of China. I am truly honored to serve as a member of the House of Representatives. ‘ added Mr Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher is the chairman of the special committee investigating the Chinese Communist Party.
