Republican Representative Nancy Mace is reportedly considering an early retirement from Congress.
As reported by the New York Times, she seems to be unhappy with Speaker Mike Johnson.
According to ABC News 4, Mace is said to be planning discussions about retiring early with her colleague, Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has already announced her resignation at the end of November.
Annie Carni, a reporter for the New York Times, noted that Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, has expressed her dissatisfaction with the current leadership and how the House operates, particularly regarding its treatment of women.
However, Mace has denied these retirement rumors through several social media posts, stating, “Retirement is a big no-no for me. I don’t know why this is spreading so fast, but it might be due to the clicks.”
In her posts, Mace added comments about the media misinterpreting overheard conversations and confirmed frustrations about the House’s slow progress on important issues. She highlighted that many feel discharge petitions seem to be the only way to instigate change.
Additionally, she expressed her disappointment over the inability to achieve President Trump’s agenda and shared her frustrations about how serious lawmakers are often not taken seriously. She emphasized, “I hate it when news outlets fabricate stories.” While retirement wasn’t mentioned in her comments, she noted that “the internet is wild,” which, well, certainly captures a lot these days.
Currently, she is also running for Governor of South Carolina.
