Democratic New York Governor Kathy Hochul has demanded that President-elect Donald Trump must show remorse if he wants to be pardoned for his felony conviction in the so-called “hush money” case.

However, President Trump insisted that this was “political persecution.”

“The pardon process is underway in New York state. It will be long,” Hochul (D.N.Y.) said at a press conference on Wednesday. “It requires several elements. One is regret.”

“As I review petitions that come in throughout the year, I know that no one will be treated better or worse by me as I make this life-changing decision,” she said. continued. “So no one gets any extra favors or worse treatment.”

Trump was previously convicted of 34 felonies in March for allegedly falsifying business records, which prosecutors say was aimed at concealing an alleged affair with Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election. he claimed. President Trump denounced the theory as “disgraceful.”

“This was a disgrace. This was a fraudulent trial by a corrupt and opposing judge,” Trump said at the time.

Trump added: “I was just convicted in a fraudulent political witch-hunt trial. I did nothing wrong.”

Mr. Trump claimed that the Manhattan District Attorney's Office provided the jury with five categories of evidence that contradicted recent Supreme Court decisions upholding presidential immunity.

Additionally, President Trump's recent effort to have the case thrown out based on the Supreme Court's ruling was rejected by a New York judge.

Trump's lawyers cited social media posts by Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania), specifically announcing that Hunter Biden had been pardoned by the president's father on tax and firearms charges. President Joe Biden has argued that Trump should be pardoned because of his recent incarceration.

“Weaponizing the judiciary for blatant partisan gain diminishes collective trust in our institutions and sows further division,” Fetterman wrote.

Mr. Fetterman is seeking a pardon from Mr. Trump, but because his conviction occurred in state court, a presidential pardon from Mr. Biden or Mr. Trump himself would not apply.
