Gov. Polis rejects claims Harris flip-flopped on border stance, says she always supported ‘building barriers and walls’

Colorado's Democratic governor, Jared Polis, played double-dealing on Sunday, claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris has always supported “building barriers, building walls” while also calling former President Donald Trump's wall a “colossal waste of taxpayer money.”

Polis appeared in an interview ABC's “This Week” Speaking on behalf of the Harris campaign, he said the Democratic presidential candidate Never flips over About her stance on borders.

“It's the most cost-effective way to stop the illegal flow of people, guns and drugs across our southern border.”

“This is another issue that is very misleading when it comes to the public debate. Democrats in general, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, have always been in favor of building a barrier or a wall at certain locations on the border as part of a comprehensive border security strategy,” Polis argued.

“But wait a minute,” ABC reporter Jonathan Karl responded, “She called the border wall a 'medieval vanity project' and a 'foolish use of money' and said she would block funding for it. So she never said she supported the wall.”

Polis then said Trump's border wall was a “colossal waste of taxpayer money” but argued Harris would use the wall to stop people crossing the border illegally.

“To be sure, Donald Trump's proposed border wall has been a colossal waste of taxpayer money. He has talked about a wall across virtually the entire border, but has never effectively used different types of barriers, including satellite imagery and on the ground intelligence, in a cost-effective manner to secure and seal the border,” Polis continued.

“What Kamala Harris supports is ensuring we have the most cost-effective way possible to stop the illegal flow of people, guns and drugs across our southern border. Of course, Donald Trump's border wall won't work and would be a waste of taxpayer money,” he said. “And of course, a barrier or a wall is part of a comprehensive strategy that Kamala Harris will implement to secure our southern border.”

Asked why Harris had recently reversed course, Mr Polis defended her, saying “the mark of a good leader is taking time to learn and evolve”.

“Whether you move center, left or right, what really matters is what works,” Polis told ABC.

In 2017, as a senator from California, Harris called the wall a “stupid waste of money” and promised to block its construction. 2020 Presidential ElectionShe said she would “not vote for the wall under any circumstances” and called it Trump's “medieval vanity project.”
