The Justice Department is currently dealing with around 5.2 million pages of documents that might be related to the infamous pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. This investigation might not wrap up until late January.
The latest figures come after an announcement indicating that the task ahead is proving to be more complex than initially anticipated when it was mentioned last week that over “1 million pages” of documents were already found by the U.S. attorney’s office in Manhattan.
As per the report, the Justice Department is also bringing in 400 lawyers to sift through the remaining materials. This effort is part of adhering to the Epstein File Transparency Act, which mandated the Trump administration to release these files by December 19.
To tackle the volume of documents, the review team consists of a sizable group, including national security and criminal prosecutors, along with those from U.S. attorney’s offices in both New York and Florida.
The completion of this document review is not expected until at least January 20, according to the report.
Last week, the Justice Department stated that it was operating in “full compliance” with disclosure laws and had attorneys “working around the clock” to review materials and implement necessary redactions to safeguard victims.
So far, approximately 100,000 pages of records have been made available regarding the disgraced financier.
Authors of the Epstein File Transparency Act, Representatives Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and Thomas Massey (R-Ky.), mentioned that they are contemplating a bill that would impose a $5,000 daily fine on Attorney General Pam Bondi for delaying the release of unpublished documents, which include significant redactions from files already disclosed.
The released files have included several compromising images of former President Bill Clinton with Epstein and convicted associate Ghislaine Maxwell, as well as a 2020 email revealing that Trump had flown on Epstein’s private jet at least eight times during the mid-1990s.
However, there’s no evidence suggesting that Trump knew of the sexual crimes committed by Epstein or that he did anything wrong.
