Federation of Government Employees Promotes Anti-Trump Protests
The United States Federation of Government Employees, a pro-labor group representing numerous Border Patrol agents and federal law enforcement officials, has collaborated with Nokings.org to organize protests against Trump nationwide. At these events, protesters displayed signs criticizing ICE, border patrols, and law enforcement.
The organization’s logo is clearly visible on the “partner page” of Nokings.org, which urges large-scale protests against Trump that, in some areas, have turned violent. For instance, in Salt Lake City, Utah, a protester was shot and killed when security guards accidentally hit him, mistaking him for an attacker.
Representatives from the AFL-CIO affiliated labor organizations, which includes around 100,000 law enforcement officers—such as those from the Border Patrol and other agencies—can be found on the AFGE website. This includes the TSA, the Bureau of Prisons, and several others.
The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which represents rank-and-file Border Patrol agents, is part of AFGE but has openly criticized the organization’s political stance on immigration and law enforcement issues. This relationship is a result of a 1967 decision that granted AFGE exclusive representation rights to all employees at that time.
On the NBPC website, union officials explain their association with AFGE:
The National Border Patrol Council is integrated within AFGE, which is linked with the AFL-CIO. If we were to sever or discuss this connection, the NBPC would risk losing vital assets, legal protections, and its exclusive representation status. The non-BP AFGE national representatives envision controlling the union and its representation. By 2019, AFGE paid AFL-CIO approximately $0.65 per member monthly.
Despite opposition to the promotion of illegal immigration by AFGE and AFL-CIO, NBPC finds itself in a bind. To enact change, it must persuade various councils within AFGE and other associated unions to reconsider their stances on illegal immigration.
This statement mirrors the frustration vents by multiple border patrol agents, including those from Texas, who are compelled to support the political agenda of the Federation of Government Employees while representing the Border Border Patrol Council.
One Border Patrol agent shared with Breitbart Texas that while he appreciates the representation from the National Border Patrol Council, he feels uncomfortable with AFGE supporting protests that undermine law enforcement. “Some protesters are making aggressive chants aimed at us and our ICE agents. They enforce laws passed by Congress, so it’s unsettling. Should I really be paying 25% of my monthly union dues for this?”
Recently, Breitbart Texas covered a “No Kings” anti-Trump demonstration at the Texas State Capitol, which extended onto the streets for several hours. Protesters, carrying flags from Honduras, Mexico, and Palestine, attempted to provoke police officers. During the march in downtown Austin, they repeatedly shouted “Migra,” a term that refers to border patrols.
As reported, participants from Austin’s “No Kings” group filled the streets in dark clothing, helmets, and masks. For hours, they displayed hostility towards police, overturning trash bins, and even moving barricades to obstruct traffic. Police monitored the situation until the crowd was finally dispersed just before midnight.
Some attendees were arrested after ignoring police orders to disperse from an illegal rally near 8th Avenue and Colorado Avenue.
