Virginia’s Democratic Governor, Abigail Spanberger, along with local officials in Northern Virginia, is encountering an uptick in hold requests from ICE following two recent arrests involving illegal immigrants accused of murder in Fairfax County.
This week, ICE initiated detention requests for two undocumented immigrants facing serious charges. Misael López Gomez, a 28-year-old from Guatemala, is charged with second-degree murder and felony child abuse for allegedly causing the death of his 3-month-old daughter. Additionally, Anibal Armando Chavarria Muy, also from Guatemala, was detained after being accused of second-degree murder for a stabbing incident.
The Department of Homeland Security has reached out to Spanberger and referred to Fairfax County as having “Sanctuary politicians,” urging them not to release Chavarria Mui. These latest incidents are part of a troubling trend of violent crimes involving undocumented individuals that have left local residents shaken.
In another case, the Department of Education is probing claims that an illegal immigrant assaulted a minor girl at a nearby high school.
Misael López Gomez – Infanticide
Two ICE officials informed that Misael López Gomez, arrested in Fairfax for allegedly killing his 3-month-old daughter, is an illegal immigrant who entered the U.S. back in July 2023 to escape violence. Reports indicate the infant died from blunt force trauma. López-Gomez is currently being held without bail, facing charges of second-degree murder and felony child abuse.
Anibal Armando Chavarria Muy – Machete Stabbing
Following Chavarria Muy’s arrest after a stabbing incident, ICE filed a request with local law enforcement not to release him. The DHS confirmed that a machete was used in the crime. Local authorities found the victim with multiple stab wounds, and he later died at a local hospital. Chavarria Muy, who illegally entered the U.S., now faces second-degree murder charges.
Israel Flores Ortiz – Minor Molestation
Fairfax County residents are also disturbed by the case of 18-year-old Israel Flores Ortiz, who has been charged with molesting numerous girls at his high school. ICE requested to detain him after his arrest for allegedly assaulting over a dozen girls. He is currently held without bail, facing 13 counts of assault and battery. Flores Ortiz is an illegal immigrant who was released to the U.S. in 2024 under the current administration, raising concerns for local parents about school safety.
Abdul Jallow – Neck Stabbing
In late February, ICE detained Abdul Jallow, a Sierra Leonean national charged with murder after a woman was fatally stabbed at a bus stop. The victim died from multiple stab wounds, and Jallow is said to have a lengthy criminal record with over 30 arrests for various offenses. Jallow also entered the country illegally in 2012.
The DHS expressed regret over the recent violence, emphasizing the need for stricter immigration policies. They criticized Fairfax County’s approach, asking when local leaders will prioritize American lives over current practices.
Meanwhile, reactions have surfaced regarding proposed changes to help ICE perform its duties effectively. Observers suggest that certain political groups are continuing to impede necessary funding and reforms aimed at addressing these challenges.
Fox News Digital has reached out to Spanberger’s office and Fairfax County officials for their perspectives on the situation.
