Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday that Americans are “starting to wake up to the reality that tariffs on everything from Canada will make life much more expensive.”
Speaking at an event hosted by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce on Monday, the Canadian prime minister said people in the United States are “starting to wake up to the reality that tariffs on everything from Canada will make life much more expensive.”
Prime Minister Trudeau acknowledged that President Trump's promise to impose a 25% tariff on all Canadian imports would be “devastating” to his country's economy, but added, “But it's equally important for Americans. It will mean real difficulties,” he added.
Canada's prime minister also said that “as we did eight years ago,” the government will “respond to unfair tariffs.” This is a reference to tariffs imposed on some U.S. imports in response to the first Trump administration's tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum.
