Reviving the American Dream

As the United States nears its 250th anniversary, the National Governors Association (NGA), led by Chair Kevin Stitt from Oklahoma, is working on a new initiative to revive the American dream. In a recent conversation, Stitt shared his perspective with Fox News Digital.

“I’ve experienced the American Dream firsthand,” Stitt remarked, emphasizing a shared vision among both Democratic and Republican governors. He believes there’s a collective agreement on the importance of conveying that anyone can achieve their goals with determination.

At the NGA’s summer gathering in Colorado Springs, Stitt highlighted his “Incoming Chairperson Initiative,” which concentrates on investing in economy, education, and artificial intelligence. He stated, “We might not achieve equal outcomes, but we certainly want to give everyone the chance to pursue their dreams through entrepreneurship and a free market.”

However, the NGA is facing some tensions, particularly among governors who are reassessing their affiliations and membership fees related to Trump’s agenda.

Stitt expressed a desire to bring in prominent figures who embody the spirit of the American Dream, mentioning potential attendees such as Vice President JD Vance, former President Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

During the same meeting, NGA Vice-Chair Wes Moore, a Democrat from Maryland, shared his thoughts on the American dream, noting that it’s not a singular concept but rather a legacy passed down through generations. “It’s a continuous journey,” Moore explained. “This dream was fought for by those who came before us. It represents a unique experiment in human history.”

Stitt also reflected on his personal journey, noting that he built his nationwide company from the ground up before stepping into his role as governor in 2018. He expressed pride in the strides made in Oklahoma, especially regarding “educational freedom” and the state’s rising popularity as a relocation destination.

Looking back, he recalled a time when Oklahoma faced significant challenges, including major budget deficits and teacher strikes. “We didn’t feel like we were thriving,” Stitt admitted. “Being a fourth-generation Oklahoman, I wanted to ignite a sense of bravery in our community.”

Regarding future elections, Stitt mentioned he was closely watching the gubernatorial race as candidates begin to declare their intentions. He suggested he would inform Oklahomans about individuals he believes could uphold the state’s current path and continue fostering momentum.

As for his own plans, Stitt noted a desire to return to the business world and emphasized that politics need not be about climbing the ladder. “When I tell Oklahomans that my background is in business, I want them to know my focus is on the next generation,” he remarked. “That’s how we’ve started to thrive; we’re making decisions that truly benefit the people of Oklahoma.”
