Governor of Virginia Directs Investigation into Claims School Employees Organized Abortions

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin announced on Wednesday that he has instructed state police to begin a criminal investigation into allegations surrounding a school-funded abortion in Fairfax County.

This decision follows claims from a report indicating that a social worker at Centerville High School facilitated and financed abortions for students, including a 17-year-old, in 2021—without notifying or obtaining consent from their parents. Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) has initiated its own investigation into these claims after the report was published.

“I was alerted to these allegations starting in 2021 just yesterday,” FCPS stated to local outlet WJLA last Wednesday. “We take all concerns regarding our students’ well-being very seriously, so we are launching an immediate and thorough investigation.”

However, Zenida Perez, a teacher at Centerville High School, stated that since May 2022, she has reported to school officials seven times about social workers allegedly promoting and funding abortions for students, as reported by Fox News on Tuesday.

“I am very concerned about the allegations that Fairfax County Public School officials arranged for minors to have abortions without parental consent, and possibly misused public funds,” Youngkin mentioned in a statement. “I have directed the Virginia Police Investigation Bureau to start a comprehensive criminal investigation into this matter shortly,” he added.

In response to inquiries, FCPS informed Breitbart News that the district is “ready to fully cooperate with the State Police investigation into these allegations from 2021.”

“As this is an ongoing HR issue, we cannot comment further at this time,” FCPS continued. “Our focus is on preparing for the upcoming school year, ensuring academic excellence and opportunities for all students in a safe and welcoming environment.”

Virginia law requires parental consent and notification before minors can obtain an abortion.
