Angel Father Critiques Mayor Pritzker on Immigration Policies
Joe Abraham, the father of Katie Abraham, has conveyed his profound sadness and frustration as another “angel family” deals with the loss of a loved one, allegedly at the hands of undocumented immigrants. He has openly criticized Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, pointing to their lenient immigration policies and what he sees as attempts to deflect responsibility. “Illinois voters perceive this as a reason for re-election,” he emphasized, calling for accountability in a crisis affecting countless families.
In a separate development, Governor Pritzker has called for state officials to pursue a criminal investigation into federal immigration agents involved in a recent operation at Midway Airport. This comes after he announced criminal charges against officials from the Trump administration, accusing them of “breaking the law.” During a news conference, he highlighted that communities have faced unprecedented levels of harassment, stating, “They utilized tear gas and smoke bombs against peaceful protesters and crowds.”
The push for an investigation stems from a report compiled by a committee of eight members appointed by Pritzker, including former judges and law enforcement officials. They identified more than a dozen incidents of suspected misconduct by federal agents, notably the death of Silverio Villegas González, an undocumented immigrant killed by ICE agents.
The extensive report criticized the Trump administration for allegedly misleading the public regarding the motives behind the Midway raid and altering crucial facts about events involving immigration personnel. It accused high-ranking officials of encouraging misconduct among ICE and CBP personnel during the Operation Midway Blitz and of adopting harmful policies.
Additionally, the report alleged unconstitutional usage of force by federal officers, documenting incidents of extreme physical violence.
In response to Pritzker’s push for criminal charges, Acting Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security Lauren Biss argued that the governor is avoiding his responsibilities towards public safety. She called the investigation a political maneuver, asserting, “Federal employees acting in the line of duty can only be investigated by other federal agencies.” She insists states lack the authority for such probes.
