Florida Declares Hulk Hogan Day
Ron DeSantis, the Governor of Florida, has officially designated August 1 as “Florida’s Hulk Hogan Day,” lowering the flag in memory of the wrestling icon. This announcement came on Friday, shortly after Hogan’s passing on July 24 at age 71.
To honor Hogan’s legacy, DeSantis declared, “I proclaim August 1, 2025, as ‘Hulk Hogan Day’ in Florida, and I will order the flag to be flown at half-staff at the state capitol in Tallahassee.”
In a tweet, DeSantis mentioned, “In honor of the great Florida Hulk Hogan, we will hang the flags at the Capitol and Pinellas County tomorrow. I have officially declared tomorrow, August 1, 2025, as Florida’s ‘Hulk Hogan Day.’ Brothers, rest in peace.”
DeSantis reminisced about Hogan, stating, “On Thursday, July 24, 2025, Terry Borea, a notable professional wrestler known as Hulk Hogan, passed away. Although born in Augusta, Georgia, he moved to Tampa at a young age.” He elaborated on Hogan’s career, noting that he started wrestling in 1977 and became famous after joining WWE. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005 and again in 2020 as part of the New World Order.
DeSantis reflected on how wrestling stars like Hogan have left a lasting impact on fans across the globe.
Hogan was described as an icon for many, especially those who grew up in the 80s and 90s. DeSantis acknowledged, “His vibrant personality seemed to resonate deeply, and he truly represented Florida.”
The cause of Hogan’s death was determined to be a heart attack, classified as natural, with the Pinellas County Forensic Science Center reporting he suffered from chronic lymphocytic leukemia and atrial fibrillation. Notably, Hogan had never disclosed having a cancer diagnosis publicly.
