Governor Spanberger's Extreme Left Agenda Uncovered

Although running as a moderate, Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger has ignited a left-leaning debate in the state by reversing many policies from former Governor Glenn Youngkin, limiting immigration enforcement, and implementing affirmative action in hiring for government roles.

On the very first day of her administration, Spanberger, a former congresswoman, signed a series of 10 executive orders aimed at progressive goals, particularly in terms of enhancing diversity.

One of these orders, known as Executive Order 4, specifically focuses on improving public education quality by establishing policies against discrimination, especially towards historically marginalized groups.

Spanberger tends to give vague replies when questioned about issues like transgender individuals in girls’ sports or bathrooms, often sidestepping direct answers.

Executive Order 4 also seeks to tackle educational disparities, aiming to eliminate discriminatory practices and close gaps in opportunities and resources.

Her directive, known as EO 9, instructs state agencies to actively recruit qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds, including minorities, women, people with disabilities, and older residents.

This order explicitly prohibits discrimination based on gender identity or expression.

Moreover, Spanberger revoked EO 47 from Youngkin, which had involved state law enforcement’s support for federal immigration efforts. Youngkin had framed this mandate around public safety, arguing that dangerous undocumented immigrants should not be allowed in communities.

Spanberger dismissed this by emphasizing that the commonwealth’s priority must be the safety and security of all Virginians.

Recently, she announced another executive order aimed at promoting non-coercive policing and compliance with state laws instead of enforcing immigration status administratively.

Additionally, earlier this month, she signed a measure to include the pro-abortion Reproductive Freedom Rights Act on the November ballot.

At the beginning of her term, Spanberger also supported various tax increases and initiatives for a statewide paid family leave program, along with increased childcare subsidies.

In her initial joint statement with another official, she declared the raise of the minimum wage to $15 an hour in Virginia.

Since that time, Spanberger faced mockery from conservative circles, especially regarding her party’s response to Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address, with some noting her as an example of the consequences of electing moderate Democrats.

Critics raised questions about the potential impact of multiple new taxes proposed by Spanberger and her fellow Democrats, sparking ongoing debates about taxation and governance in Virginia.
