Graham Rejects Assertion That He Advocates for U.S. Assets to Support Regime Change in Iran

Sen. Lindsey Graham Discusses Iran’s Government

During an appearance on FNC’s “Jesse Watters Primetime,” Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) expressed his support for a change in Iran’s government but clarified that he does not advocate for military intervention to achieve it.

Watters began by asking Graham if he wanted to see a new administration in Iran and how that could be accomplished. Graham hesitated, mentioning that he wasn’t sure about invading Iran specifically. He emphasized that while he doesn’t support sending American troops, he hopes for a future without the current Ayatollahs.

Watters agreed, noting a desire for individuals who oppose America to be removed from power. However, he questioned whether involving the U.S. military was the right approach. Graham firmly stated that military involvement is not the answer. He expressed hope that the Iranian people would instigate a change themselves, mentioning that even the Ayatollahs might be open to negotiation.

His stance is clear—he prefers peace and would be open to having discussions with the Iranian regime, provided they accept Israel’s right to exist. He reiterated that if they aren’t willing to acknowledge Israel, they aren’t genuinely interested in peace. While he does not support intervening in Iran’s internal conflicts, he does wish for a regime change to a more peaceful government, which ultimately depends on the Iranian people.

Watters appreciated Graham’s perspective, indicating that many share the desire for positive change in Iran’s leadership. Graham reinforced that while the current situation is dire, it doesn’t negate the severity of the regime’s actions, describing the Ayatollah as a significant threat due to his hostile stance towards Israel.

Watters agreed on the depiction of the Iranian leadership, and both reiterated their disdain for the current regime.
