US Response to Iran’s Repression
On Wednesday, South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham took to X to express that the U.S. should employ “all means necessary” to confront those accountable for the deaths of Iranians amid ongoing protests.
He posed a question about how to respond to the harsh regime in Iran, suggesting that supporting demonstrators aiming for an end to oppression is vital. But it’s not enough just to provide moral support; action is needed to halt the murder of innocents promptly. His message? “Make the Iranian people safe again.”
Demonstrators in Iran have faced severe crackdowns, leading to fatalities. Earlier that day, President Trump stated in an address that credible sources indicated a potential halt to the killings, expressing hope for a peaceful resolution.
Graham further urged Trump to aid Iranian protesters through “military, cyber, and psychological attacks” against the regime in his shared post.
Later that night, Graham expressed concern, citing continuing violence against protesters and rising death tolls. “I hope help is on the way,” he noted on X, reflecting a sense of urgency.
Trump has voiced strong support for Iranian rebels, assuring them that assistance is forthcoming. Promoting ongoing protests, he encouraged demonstrators to establish leadership and catalog those responsible for violence, hinting at repercussions for them. He also announced the cancellation of all meetings with Iranian officials until the bloodshed ceases.
Graham added that this critical juncture is marked by Trump’s commitment to unleash significant power against an administration that has repeatedly crossed boundaries. He highlighted that military, cyber, and psychological responses are integral to the proposed support.
In his remarks, Graham called for dismantling the infrastructure that fosters such violence and removing the leaders who perpetuate these human rights abuses.
