Grassley urges FBI to explain Trump Arctic Frost investigation name change, describes it as ‘anything but random’

Grassley Seeks Clarity on FBI’s Investigation Code Names

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is pressing for clarity regarding how the FBI chooses code names for its investigations. This follows the discovery that agents altered the name of the Arctic Frost investigation, which pertains to President Donald Trump. Grassley referred to the name change as “not random.”

In a letter directed to Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel, Grassley raised his concerns after receiving the requested documents related to the Arctic Frost probe into Trump and the 2020 election.

Changes in Investigation Names

Initially labeled as “Hyperbolic Frost,” the investigation’s name was revised to “Arctic Frost.” Grassley highlighted that this change raises questions about the integrity of the information provided to him by former FBI Director James Comey during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on May 3, 2017.

During that hearing, Grassley inquired about the code name “Midyear Exam,” which was used for the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server. He noted discrepancies in Comey’s explanations about why investigations received particular names.

Comey had claimed that naming investigations involves both “art and science,” and he asserted that the selections were made randomly, without any nefarious intent.

Persistent Doubts

Grassley, however, remains skeptical. He pointed out that the name transition from “Hyperboloid Frost” to “Arctic Frost” clearly suggests a deliberate choice. There are even rumors that “Arctic Frost” could relate to President Trump himself, considering some opponents have mocked him with the term “Orange Man.”

The senator has requested all related records regarding the name “Operation Midyear Test,” including emails from Comey.

FBI Documentation

Recent records from the FBI also reveal handwritten notes discussing the Arctic Frost investigation, which indicate possible targets associated with Trump’s campaign.

Grassley and Senator Ron Johnson from Wisconsin have been looking into the origins of this investigation since July 2022. They believe the records they’ve uncovered show that certain FBI agents and Justice Department officials led a politically motivated investigation against Trump, which later expanded to include other Republicans.

“Current FBI records suggest potential abuse of power during the Arctic Frost investigation,” Johnson stated, asserting that the public deserves to understand the extent of what they term a biased targeting effort.

The two senators are committed to revealing the complete truth behind this inquiry.
