The America's Cup is only in its 37th year. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a sports trophy with a greater or richer history. The first competition in 1851 was won by the only American ship in the field, and the ship's name was quickly changed.

Some of these photos are amazing.

Ben Ainslie: It's a really proud moment for us. We've been working hard for 10 years to get to this final, so what an opportunity this is. We will do our best.

why? . That speaks for itself, right? Britain is a very proud sporting nation and has a very proud maritime history, but this cup is the only thing missing. That's the reason. We are driven by the fact that Great Britain has never won the America's Cup.

Andy Bull reported from Barcelona.

This part of Mr. Yara's explanation This is especially helpful for those attending the America's Cup for the first time.

How does it work?

The teams will first participate in a series of regattas, culminating in the Louis Vuitton Cup, which will determine the main event challenger. In this year's match, Team New Zealand will face Ineos Britannia as defenders after they comfortably defeated Italy's Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli in the final to earn the right to challenge New Zealand. The current format features the best of 13 series. The first person to win seven races takes home the cup. This year's edition begins with the first two races on October 12th. Games 3 and 4 are then scheduled for October 13th. Subsequent races will be held on October 16th for races 5 and 6, and race 7 on October 18th. If necessary, the 8th race will be held on October 18th, the 9th and 10th races on October 19th, and the 11th and 12th races on October 20th. The final race will be held on October 21st if necessary.
